Downtown is the oldest part of Roswell and still its civic center: City Hall, the Town Square, the Roswell Mill on Vickery Creek and the Canton Street restaurant strip. The city’s 2045 plan calls it “the City’s historic and civic heart” and makes it one of five Activity Centers, the places where it expects most change. Around the shops are the streets of older houses, townhomes and apartments covered by this page.

Where it is
The city’s map of character areas marks a Historic Area / Downtown district along Atlanta Street (Georgia 9) and Canton Street, from the Chattahoochee River and Azalea Drive north past City Hall, between Mimosa Boulevard on the west and Vickery Creek and Oxbo Road on the east. The 2045 plan’s Downtown Activity Center map (page 162) covers the same ground in three parts: a core of shops and restaurants, the existing civic area around City Hall, and a “transitional” ring of homes and small offices. This page also takes in the residential streets west of that district to Coleman Road and north to Woodstock Road, which are zoned with it.
Of the 4,914 Roswell address points in this area in the Fulton County Schools map data, every one is in ZIP code 30075. About 22% carry a unit number, which marks apartments, condominiums and townhomes. The plan names the Hillrose development, the reuse of the former Independence High School site at 791 Mimosa Blvd. and the downtown parking deck among the projects shaping the district.
