Parking downtown
Downtown parking changed this year. From the city’s parking update of July 30:
- On-street parking on Canton Street between Magnolia and Norcross streets, Elizabeth Way, East Alley and the East Alley lot is paid. The first two hours are free from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. After that, and at all other times, it is $3 an hour up to $24 a day.
- Paying: scan the QR code or text the number on the sign near your space, or use the kiosks at Canton Street and Elizabeth Way and along East Alley. No app is needed, and every car must have an active session, even for a quick stop.
- Two free 30-minute spaces on Elizabeth Way are set aside for quick stops at local businesses.
- The downtown deck, 1056 Alpharetta St. at Green Street, has 394 spaces. The city has offered it at no charge while Green Street is closed for construction. Check the signs at the entrance for the current rule.
The pilot program runs through Dec. 31, 2026, the city says. Enforcement runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to its earlier parking notice.
Traffic
Green Street is being turned into a one-way southbound road with a brick-paved trail as part of the city’s Green Street Activation Plan, which closed Green Street from Cherry Way to Alpharetta Street (Highway 9) for about six months from May 4, the city said. Green Street from Woodstock Road to Cherry Way stays open one-way southbound.
Two other things will bring crowds downtown that weekend: the Christkindlmarket at Bulloch Hall, and Thanksgiving morning’s Running of the Turkeys 5K, which closes Canton Street and Woodstock Road on the course from 7:45 a.m. Thursday. Details are on our Thanksgiving page.
